God Our Provider
"Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you - you of little faith." Luke 12:27-28
It's so easy in difficult circumstances to doubt God's provision. God holds true to His promises. He will provide for our every need. How much more valuable are we to God than the flowers in the field?
My husband and I had gotten ourselves into a lot of credit card debt by making some poor financial choices. We were determined to pay all our debt off in 18 months. In order to do this a huge portion of our income went to paying off our credit cards every month and once we started there was no backing out.
This made things pretty tight for awhile. One of the best lessons I learned growing up from my parents was that God is our provider.
God provided for us in so many ways that year.
One of those ways was in December of that year. I was standing at the gas station late at night, eight months pregnant with our third child. Gas prices had dropped to just about $2 a gallon but I was still wondering how we would pay for gas to travel out to see family for the holidays. As I stood there, a woman in a dark coat approached me quickly. At first, my heart raced because I was unsure if this was a friend or foe at such a late hour at a gas station. She smiled and reached for my hand. I hesitated, but let her take hold of it, and she told me someone wanted her to give "this" to the next person she saw to bless them. She then pressed money into my hand. Before I could finish saying thank you, she had turned, entered her car and left.
I opened my hand, looked down and inside the palm of my hand was a folded $20 bill. To fill up my tank it cost $21. I only had to pay $1 to fill up, which gave us the extra gas money we needed to visit family over Christmas.
While visiting family wasn't necessarily a NEED for survival, for me, it was God's way of showing me that He was pleased with us for being responsible and getting our financial house in order and was choosing to bless that.
When you are living in obedience to God, you are His child and under His covering and protection.
There are so many stories and testimonies God has blessed me with throughout the years. I am amazed at all the ways He protects and provides for us.
If you're going through a hard time, trust Him. Pour out Your heart to Him. Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him and He will provide for your every need. :-)
