Materials Needed:
2 Hand Towel (Can be different colors)
1 Bath Towel
Sewing Machine
Scissors
Thread
Hand Needle
Pins
1/2" Binding (optional)
Lace (optional)
Start by folding the hand towel in half length wise....
Cut about 4-5 inches off the width and length.....
Unfold the scraps and cut the center piece from the two edges.
Using a basting stitch, sew down through the fabric and pull the threads gently so it curls......
Wrap it so that the edges meet and it forms a circle....hand stitch in place.
Next pin the hood fabric against the bath towel. Stitch in place.
Next fold in half width wise so that the seam is on the outside.
Pin the top of the hood together....
Stitch the hood in place....
Next stitch the binding in place along the edge of the hood....
Then hand stitch the flower in place on the hood.....
Just as you did with the flower....use a loose basting stitch and sew down through the center of the lace. Pull on the thread to create a ruffle effect.
Attach the ruffle on top of the binding by stitching in place.
**Obviously if you're making this for a little boy you will want to skip the flower and lace. But you could make dog ears, dino spikes, or eyes instead. :-)
Now these steps are optional but if you want to personalize this for someone you can take a second hand towel to make the letter of their first name.
Sketch the letter...
Fold the edge under 1/4" and pin to the center of the big towel.
Stitch in place....
Voila! There you go! I made this for my niece who just turned a year old in May. I made it big (my daughter was modeling it for me) so she could grow with it. They can use it just like a regular towel until she's big enough to wear it. :-)
