Homemade Butter

Homemade Butter

I found a tutorial on The Hungry Mouse blog for how to make homemade butter. I was amazed at how easy it looked! I just HAD to try it. I'm trying to make more and more items homemade when possible.

All you need is a mixer with a whisk attachment, 6 cups of heavy whipping cream (raw is better but I didn't have that option), a big bowl, and a strainer. If you want to make stick butter you'll need a square or rectangular container and some wax paper but that's optional.
Pour all your cream into a big bowl....
 Start whisking....
 And keep whisking....
You'll whip it to whipped cream consistency and then keep going.

You'll keep going and slowly it will start to look like this.....
The fat will start to separate even more and turn a yellowish color....
You will keep whisking until the fat separates completely from the butter milk and looks like this.
Put the strainer over a deep bowl and squeeze out any remaining liquid.

Mine made just about 1lb 2oz of butter.
I used my scale container and smashed the butter into one half trying to make it as smooth and straight as possible. Place in the refrigerator to allow to harder for about an hour.
Slice along the edges with a knife to loosen the butter from the container. Cut into four pieces. To remove each piece slide the knife under each stick to remove from the container.

Cut a piece of wax paper big enough to wrap the stick in. Then just wrap it up like a Christmas present. Voila! You just made homemade butter!!! Yum. I didn't add any salt to mine but you can mix in salt before putting the butter in the container if you want salted butter. Store in the refrigerator.
