Butterfly Hand Print Painting
I am going to first thank my brother in law for the inspiration for this project. This past Christmas he created similar looking butterflies from his two boys hand prints and the foot prints of his 8 month old daughter. The frames were black and the mats were white. Very professionally done. He gave them to his mother for Christmas since she is obsessed with everything "butterfly." I loved the idea so much, I needed to create my own.
I decided to give this particular painting away to my Grandma. The kids and I visit her often and REALLY enjoy the time we spend with her. Last summer we went camping in her front yard for a week. The kids had a blast. When we had to leave I remember my Grandma telling me she was going to keep their hand prints and finger prints on the screen door. Now she has their hand prints forever. :-)
I always start off by making sure I have all my supplies ready to go...
First I created a few different shades of blue and blended them together for the sky. I kept the lighter blues near the horizon and darker shades high in the sky.
I mixed together multiple shades of green and painted a couple rolling hills. After I looked at the finished painting it kind of looked like the Windows desktop image. :-)
My oldest son, Brenden, went first. He did a great job!
Then, Joshua....
Then Trinity...
And Joey. Joey was 10 months old at the time and it was quite challenging to get his hand prints on there. I soon discovered why my brother in law used his daughter's foot prints instead of hands. When I put the paint on Joey's hand he was amazed by the texture and kept closing and opening his hand to squish the paint. haha It was very difficult to keep his hand open long enough to get the hand print down. But we managed to get them on the canvas with them looking somewhat like a hand print. lol
Next was to paint the butterfly body and wings around each of the hand prints.
At this point I was pleased with how it turned out but it needed something else....
Some clouds, grass and a flower...ahh yes, that will do it! :-)
We had so much fun making this painting we're going to be making another one....look for that post soon.
